Site Architecture and Blogging

Site Architecture- Your site skeleton matters.Define your first level, your top level domain pages, generally your “home page” being the heart of this group. This group of pages is most likely referred to directly in a typical navigation. Your site could of course be unique and wander around on its own. But ultimately you are creating a site that spiders and people can navigate effectively and efficiently. This first level is like walking into a house and seeing the living room, kitchen, and dining room.

The next level is the pages off the pages, or pages referred to by the main pages. Continuing the house analogy, it’s like walking into the kitchen, and going into the pantry, the fridge, or making a sandwich in there. This next level is for more specific information or function. People and spiders who make it this far have reached a new level of intimacy.

I wouldn’t recommend Going to a third level for a traditional site. You get too far away from your house, and it’s easy to get lost and distracted. But there is one more room I want to talk about…

What do Blogging and Snogging have in Common?

They both happen in the bedroom. The intimate place in the house where you invite people in to get to know you better. Ok, it’s not a perfect example. But the value of the blog on a personal level is it creates a relationship. A great way to establish yourself as an authority on the Internet is to start a blog. The intimacy it creates can not be overstated. It doesn’t mean you have to share your secrets, but it does mean you share yourself. Fake it, and forget it. Sooner or later you get busted and then it could get ugly. Ouch, is that another comparison to snogging?

The bottom line of the blog? Contribute to it regularly. Stay interesting and fresh and get out in the blogosphere and promote your blog. It’s that simple and yes, it requires diligence.
